Does Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) Expire?

YES. However, it’s not all bad.
Due to its naturally derived ingredients, lack of stabilisers and harsh chemicals that extend product life spans, Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) will expire after 30 days once opened. But it will maintain its effectiveness once bottled for 6 months.
It's important to be aware of other HOCl products on the market that promote extensive life spans (e.g. longer than 6 months) that will likely be polluted by stabilisers or harsh chemicals.
Why does bleach not expire?
Bleach is a commonly used, household staple and often considered as an ideal disinfectant. However, what many people do not know is that bleach takes 10 minutes to work but typically evaporates in 2 minutes, denying its effectiveness.
Not to mention it is:
- Toxic
- Corrosive
- Can cause serious harm if found in the possession of a child or animal
Not only this, but if you become regularly exposed to bleach, such as those who clean for a profession or just simply love to clean, it can easily end up polluting their respiratory system. This can cause long term effects such as asthma.
Hospital made from organic ingredients
An ideal disinfectant and sanitizer must be non-toxic to surface contact, noncorrosive, effective in various forms, and relatively inexpensive. HOCl may be the disinfectant of choice. [1]
Pathisol Disinfectant is a HOCl product, requires no COSHH (The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and is highly effective at killing pathogens. Yet it doesn’t come with any of the nasties attached to it such as bleach or other harmful disinfectants.
We are guided by nature’s way and Pathisol Disinfectant is made from nature. We believe this is the most natural, healthy, and effective way to kill microbes without causing any harm to the environment, people, animals and plants.
How do I know how much I will use before it expires?
We encourage buying small (our smallest bottles start £4.99 for 750ml ) for standard household use to start with. If you find yourself using more than this in 30 days, we recommend re-filling your spray bottles using our 5L bottles, for a more economical purchase.
The best part? You don’t need much to go along way and with our mist spray nozzle that will reach even the smallest of crevices harbouring bacteria.
The best way to store HOCl
Make sure to store HOCl in a dark, cool place for lasting preservation.
As temperatures warm up, bacteria will thrive and grow faster in hot and sticky temperatures so maintaining a regular cleaning routine can help lower the risk of transference.
